Welcome to the Sendas Del Mar website.

We are Gunnar and Barbara Erickson, the owners.  Sendas was designed and built not long after we retired to Mexico from California.  The concept was to create a family vacation compound on the best beach we had ever seen. It has proven wonderful as that.

But we soon realized that in our enthusiasm, we over estimated how much we would be able to use it.  That is when we started renting to guests during times when family and friends were not using it.  Today our son Brent manages it with the wonderful assistance of our onsite caretakers Tito and Carmen.  We still spend stretches of time there as do other family and friends.  If you come, there is a good chance, we will meet.
Even though we came into the vacation rental business by accident, we have enjoyed sharing our second home and community with a string of terrific renters from all over.  Many have become annual visitors and we count them as friends.  Take a look at the site and see what we have to offer.  As you can see from the reviews below, guests have enjoyed their experience here. If you have any questions, you can contact us at SendasDelMarRentals@gmail.com.

Reviews from our guests about this Barra de Potosi beach vacation rental:

VRBO guest review: Wonderful getaway … with an emphasis on “away”!

“We spent ten wonderful days here swimming, relaxing, walking the often deserted beach and exploring the area surrounding the nearby village of Barra de Potosi. If you’re looking for a lot of low-key relaxation, you’ll find it here. (The shopping and nightlife are in Zihuatenejo, a half-hour by car up the coast.) We stayed in Villa Tamarindo, a beautifully built palapa-style structure snugged neatly into the landscape behind the main house. It was comfortably simple, with everything we needed — and just a dozen or so steps from the infinity pool and not many more to the beach itself. Hosts Gunnar and Barbara were welcoming and, like their neighbors and several other expatriates we met in the area, very interesting people. Caretakers Tito and Carmen were always there when needed, and always gracious in a twinkle-in-the-eye sort of way. Barra de Potosi is a small Mexican village. You’ll find a couple of small markets open during the day and maybe a couple of small restaurants open on any given night. Basic Spanish helps, but there’s a web of community there that we found our way into in just a day or two. The local people are wonderfully friendly and generous with their attention and time. While there we enjoyed a boat ride/wildlife tutorial/throw-net fishing lesson on the Lagoon, a trip to the Refugio (animal refuge), a walk to the south to Playa de Tortuga (you won’t even find footprints on that beach) and a couple of half-day trips to Zihuatenejo.”

Flipkey/Tripadvisor review: Paradise

A perfect place…we googled “nature in Mexico” and this is what we found…Barb and Gunnar are wonderful hosts…it really is hard to put it all in words, but if you like to have time stopped, if you like sunsets, if you like quiet and beauty, if you love the ocean, if you like the songs of birds, yes…even the rooster, if you love to swim, to walk the beach, to stand under a sea of stars with the surf pounding in front of you…etc etc…then this is the perfect place for you.

Flipkey/Tripadvisor review: A Week in Paradise!

“We have recently (and reluctantly) returned from our third visit to this little slice of paradise. The beauty of the setting, lovely accommodations, welcoming hosts, and the surrounding charm of the fishing village of Barra de Potosi make this vacation hideaway simply ideal for an incredibly relaxing week or two . If one is seeking a respite from the hectic pace of daily life or simply a break from the mundane, they will be well-rewarded with a stay at Villa Mandala. We are already looking forward to our next stay.”

Flipkey/Tripadvisor review: Paradise in Barra de Potosi

“We just spent 4 nights at Villa Mandala in one of the two casitas. It was beautifully decorated, immaculate, with high quality linens and fresh flowers each day. The staff, Tito and Carmen made us feel welcome and at home.
It is located right on the beach and we were up at dawn swimming in the clean, clear Pacific Ocean. Gunnar and Barbara Erickson have built a world class retreat.”

Flipkey/Tripadvisor review: Superb

“A rave. A slice of paradise. This is what Villa Mandala in Barra de Potosi delivers. From the room with its gorgeous mandala-like ceiling of woven grasses, with every guest need thoughtfully provided for, to the gardens so graciously cultivated around the exquisite palapas, to the pool that looks out upon the sea, and then the sea, itself, lulling me to sleep at night…what can I say…not enough. It was beautiful, memorable, a place to return to again and again.”
